WHAT IS TECHNOLOGY SCOUTING?

In addition to the identification of innovative or disruptive technologies, the analysis and evaluation of the potential and possible areas of application of a technology is also part of the service of a technology scout. Identification takes place, for example, by attending specialist conferences or trade fairs, via strong cross-industry and cross-technology networks, social media, internet research or observation of the venture capital scene. Scouting includes, on the one hand, researching scientific publications and researching existing patents, and, on the other hand, identifying start-ups with innovative business ideas that have experts and subject-specific knowledge.

Technologyscouting

Technology scouting is characterized by cross-sector thinking.

While technologies or processes may be established in one industry, their use in other industries is new and can thus enable new applications. Technology scouts also act as contact brokers between the actors. The idea of transferring new knowledge into an application is not fundamentally new, after all, we experience every day how innovations influence everyday life, making it more comfortable or more efficient.

Systematic observation

In an environment characterised by increasing differentiation and complexity of technologies and ever shorter innovation cycles, systematic observation and recognition of potentials in their early development phase are particularly important.

What used to be covered by an in-house development department has now developed into an independent field of activity.
